Photo taken in the winter of 1967. Connett at age 16. Peninsula High School was also known as "Continuation School". This was the school of last resort for the district. I was expelled from the normal high school and sent here. I learned nothing. I attended school only because there was no compelling reason to stay home. I smoked marijuana every day and whatever other drug I could get my hands on, (Including glue and Freon Gas). We took our drugs under the streets, in the sewers. We called ourselves "The Roaches" and dedicated our lives to intoxication, vandalism and selfishness. We were a few miles south of San Francisco, and this was the "summer of Love". For us, this summer of love became a pitiful joke comprised of hypocrisy, ignorance, betrayal and sexually transmitted disease. I watched as the peace loving hippies became violent drug addled opportunists. I took a G.E.D. test in 1968 which ended my educational process. The drugs and alcohol which I have consumed during these many decades have possibly arrested my development. My maturity as been halted and so I have doomed myself to reliving the teenage angst which most people leave behind in their 20's. This is reflected in my art, and in my life. |
